(Coloured acrylic), Joy Millett
The four shapes in this site-specific sculptural piece mirror some of the architectural details seen in the neo classical style of South Hill Park country house: the dentils found underneath the cornices of rooms, pediments above some of the doors, arches around the staircases and the Palladian staircase above the knot garden. These classical shapes persist in today’s architecture and the contemporary material of coloured acrylic used for the sculptures reflects this. The sculptures are sited outside, reflecting histories of garden sculptures.
The house is now an arts centre and is in Bracknell. It hosts many art events and arising from this project, there will be an activity workshop for young children, called ‘Shapes’ from 11am on Saturday, 22nd April. The workshop will introduce them to some of the basic architectural shapes to be found around the house and knot garden.
