Tauba Auerbach, Artist

Auerbach uses a variety of media – painting, photography, book design and musical performance – to explore the limits of of our structures and systems of logic. Of particular interest to my artistic practice are:

  • the exploration and challenging to existing linguistic systems like calligraphy, Morse code, semaphore signals, through text based drawings
  • her wave sculptures, which raise questions for me about objects, phenomena and movement
  • the Auerglass Organ, which is a two-person tracker action pump organ where each player has a keyboard with alternating notes of a four octave scale. The instrument cannot be played alone because each player must pump to supply wind to the other player’s notes. I like this societal model of interdependence and collaboration.
